Greet prospects by name with personal links
Links in the sidebar: make personal links for your outreach emails. When someone clicks one, Darwin’s chat greets them by name, the agent knows who they are and why you reached out, and each link counts its clicks, chats and outcomes.

A personal link is a link to your website that you put in your outreach emails. When someone clicks it, the chat on your website opens with a greeting written for them, like "Hi Jane, want to see what we could do for Acme?", and the agent already knows who they are and why you reached out.
You make them on Links in the sidebar. The switch at the top of the table (1) shows either your Links or your Greetings, and the button at the top right (2) adds a new one.

This is what Jane Cooper from Acme sees when she opens a link with the Founder outreach greeting: her name and company in the message, and the greeting's reply buttons under it.

Links and greetings
- A link is what you paste into an email: a name, the page it opens and its own ID, the
dw=part of the address. Each link counts its own clicks, chats and outcomes. - A greeting is what the chat says to the person: the message, up to four reply buttons, a note for the agent, and the outcome it steers toward. One greeting can serve many links, and a change to it reaches every link that uses it.
A link works without a greeting too. It opens the page with its usual opening message, and Darwin still records the visit and tells the agent who arrived.
What happens when someone clicks
- The greeting replaces your opening message. It's filled in with their details, and the greeting's reply buttons replace your page's. It shows even on pages where you've hidden the opening message, and stays on the next pages they open in the same tab.
- The agent knows who they are. It knows the name, company and title the link carried, and what you wrote in What the agent should know, so it won't ask for their name or email again.
- The chat can steer toward an outcome. When the greeting has Steers toward set, that outcome's button sits at the top of the chat and the agent leans toward it. Visitors can still ask for anything.
- Booking is filled in. If they book a meeting, the booking form already has their details.
- They're saved as a contact. If the link carries an email address, Darwin saves the person as a contact, or updates the one you have, like a form submission.
- Your team hears about it. An email such as "Jane Cooper from Acme opened your link" goes out once per person per link each day.
- Your tracking stays. Darwin removes only the link's own
dwparameters from the address bar. UTM tags, your other parameters and#anchorsstay.
Set up your first link
Write a greeting
On Links, switch the table to Greetings and select New greeting. Write what the chat says, with the person's name or company where you want them. See Write greetings.
Add a link
Switch back to Links and select New link. Name it, choose the page it opens and pick your greeting under Opens with, then select Save link. See Make and share personal links.
Copy it into your email
Under For your emails, choose your email tool, then select Copy link and paste it into your email or sequence. Your email tool fills in each person's details when it sends.
Watch the results
Each link shows its Clicks, Chats and Outcomes, and takes you to the conversations it started. See Results and follow-up.
Good to know
- Links are on every plan.
- The chat must be installed on the page a link opens. See Install the chat on your website.
- Greetings and the team email are always on. Each teammate can turn off their own link emails in Settings → Notifications. See Privacy and what Darwin stores.
- Visits from personal links are left out of the page's opening experiments, so a greeting by name doesn't skew their results.
- Teammates with the Member role can see Links but can't change them.
