Connect Salesforce

Create a Salesforce lead for every Darwin chat lead through Zapier: Darwin's New Lead trigger, two Formatter steps for the required fields, and Salesforce's Create Lead action.

  • In Darwin: Integrations → CRM & automation → ZapierOpen in Darwin
  • Updated

Create a Salesforce lead for every lead from Darwin's chat. This runs through Zapier: Darwin's Zapier app starts the Zap and Salesforce's Zapier app does the work.

A Zap named Darwin to Salesforce: step 1, the Darwin trigger New Lead; then two Formatter steps; then the Salesforce action Create Lead; marked Published.

You need: A paid Zapier plan (Salesforce is a Premium app on Zapier, and this Zap has more than two steps) and a Salesforce edition with API access. Your Salesforce admin may need to approve Zapier.

  1. Add Darwin to Zapier

In Darwin, open Integrations and select Connect on the Zapier card. Select Add Darwin to Zapier (1) while signed in to Zapier and accept the invite. Darwin is in private beta on Zapier, so the invite adds it to your account.

The Zapier steps in Darwin with Add Darwin to Zapier marked 1, Create key marked 2 and Open Zapier marked 3.
  2. Create a key for Zapier

Select Create key (2). In Integrations → API, name the key Zapier, select Choose and tick the scopes Darwin lists, then select Create key and copy it. Darwin shows it only once.

The Create an API key dialog named Zapier, with Choose marked 1, the Zapier scopes ticked, and Create key marked 2.
  3. Start the Zap with Darwin's New Lead trigger

In Zapier, create a Zap. Choose Darwin as the app and New Lead as the trigger event. Connect your Darwin account by pasting the key, then select Test trigger to load a sample with the visitor's name and email when they leave them.

The Zap trigger: app Darwin, trigger event New Lead highlighted, account Darwin, your workspace, and Test trigger with a sample loaded.
  4. Add two Formatter steps

Before the Salesforce step, add Formatter by Zapier → Text → Default Value twice: one for the visitor's last name, one for their company, each with a placeholder such as Website visitor when Darwin's field is empty.

  5. Add Salesforce's Create Lead action

Add an action step. Choose Salesforce as the app and Create Lead as the action event, then connect your Salesforce account.

The Zap action: app Salesforce and action event Create Lead highlighted, with your Salesforce account.
  6. Map the fields

Map Last Name and Company from the two Formatter steps, First Name and Email from Darwin, a Lead Source value such as Web, and Description with the visitor's first message and Darwin url.

The Create Lead fields in Salesforce, each with the Darwin field or typed value that fills it.
  7. Test and publish

Select Test step and check the result in Salesforce. Then select Publish. Back in Darwin, Build a Zap lists the Zap with its event; Open Zapier manages it.

Good to know

  • Salesforce requires Last Name and Company, which visitors don't always give. The Formatter steps fill in a placeholder such as Website visitor when they're empty.
  • Zaps act on new events from the moment you publish. Earlier leads are in Conversations, which you can export as a CSV.
  • Chats in Agent Studio's preview never start a Zap. Test with a real chat on your website, or with the sample from Test trigger.
