New: chat buttons, personal links and quote requests are live

Write greetings for your personal links

Links → Greetings: write what the chat says to someone who opens your personal link, with their first name, company or job title and words to use when one is missing, up to four reply buttons, a note on what the agent should know, and the outcome it steers toward.

A greeting is what the chat says to someone who opens one of your links: the message, the reply buttons under it, what the agent should know, and the outcome it steers toward. Write it once, then add as many links to it as you like, one for each campaign or list.

A greeting’s page, Founder outreach: Results across its links, the Greeting section with its name, what the chat says, what the agent should know and Steers toward, two reply buttons, and its Links with one link and a row to add another.
  1. Add a greeting

On Links, switch the table to Greetings (1) and select New greeting (2). The list shows each greeting's Status (Live or Draft), how many links use it, its clicks, chats and outcomes for the last 30 days, and what it steers toward. Select a greeting to open its page.

You can also start one from a link: select New greeting beside Opens with on the link's page. Darwin opens the new greeting's page with that link already connected.

The Greetings list: the Greetings side of the switch marked 1, New greeting marked 2, and three live greetings with their links, clicks, chats and Steers toward.
  2. Write what the chat says

Give the greeting a Name only your team sees. Under What the chat says (1), write one line, and type / or select + where a detail goes: First name, Company, Job title or Last name. Each one shows as a pill.

Select a pill to set what the chat says when a link doesn't carry that detail, under If it's missing, say, such as "there" or "your team". Leave it empty to leave the word out, or select Remove to take the pill out.

The Greeting section: What the chat says marked 1 with First name and Company pills, What the agent should know marked 2, and Steers toward marked 3, set to Your chat's usual.
A First name pill selected: If it's missing, say, with "there" typed, and Remove and Done.

The preview beside the greeting shows it as Jane Cooper from Acme. Choose No details under Preview as to see what someone gets when the link carries no name or company.

The same greeting with no details: Hi there, thanks for clicking through. Want to see how a two-week sprint could work for your team?
  3. Tell the agent why they are coming

What the agent should know (2) is optional. Write why you reached out and what to lead with, such as "They registered for our Q4 hiring webinar. Offer the recording, then a call." You can use pills here too. The agent reads it, filled in, whenever someone is shown this greeting.

Steers toward (3) sets the goal for people from this greeting's links. Your chat's usual keeps your chat's own button and goal. Choose Book a meeting or one of your live forms to put its button at the top of the chat for them, and the agent leans toward it. Visitors can still ask for anything.

The Steers toward list open: Your chat's usual, The button and goal your chat already has, then Book a meeting, Request a proposal, and Request a callback with Button: Call me back.

See Steer link visitors toward a meeting or form.

  4. Add reply buttons

Under Reply buttons, select Add button (1), then fill in the Button label and the Message sent when clicked (2). Select a button to change it, or its bin to remove it.

A greeting can have up to four. They replace your page's own buttons for people who open the link, and the chat's own booking button, such as Book a meeting, still shows after them when booking is set up. With none, the section reads No reply buttons. Your page's own buttons show.

Reply buttons: Add button marked 1, and How the sprint works open for editing with its Button label and Message sent when clicked, marked 2.
  5. Save it

Save greeting, in the bar at the bottom, puts it to work: every link that uses it greets people with it, including emails you've already sent. A failed save keeps your edits so you can try again.

Save as draft keeps it without using it. Its links open the page with the usual opening message until you save it as the greeting, and a saved draft shows Publish greeting at the top of its page. Discard cancels unsaved edits.

The bar at the bottom of a greeting: Unsaved changes, Discard, Save as draft, and Save greeting highlighted.

Delete a greeting

Choose Delete greeting from the ⋯ menu at the top of the greeting's page, confirm, then select Save changes in the bar below the list. A greeting that a saved link uses can't be deleted: links keep the greeting they were saved with.

Good to know

  • A pill with no fallback, for a detail the link doesn't carry, is left out with the space before it: "Hi", a First name pill and a comma read "Hi," for someone the link has no name for.
  • A greeting is up to 200 characters, and the agent's note up to 500. A workspace can have up to 50 greetings.
  • On the Greetings list, results count the visits where that greeting was the one shown. The No links yet view lists the greetings no link uses.
