TL;DR
- Choose by the job: Intercom or Zendesk to deflect support, HubSpot or Jotform to capture leads, Darwin or Qualified to book sales meetings, tawk.to or Crisp on a budget, Chatbase to build your own agent.
- The way a chatbot is billed shows what it was built for: per resolution for support, per seat for people answering, per meeting for sales, per message credit for builders.
- Free usually has a catch. tawk.to's chat is free but its AI is a paid add-on, and the free plans from Jotform, Tidio, Chatbase and Crisp cap conversations, credits or AI.
- Before you commit, put your visitors' real questions to the bot, including one about price, and price a month at last month's traffic.

Written by Ari Goldstein, Founder & CEO, Darwin. We make Darwin, one of the products reviewed here; our editorial policy says how we handle that.
There is no single best AI chatbot for website owners, because website chatbots are built for different jobs. If the job is answering support questions so your team handles fewer of them, pick Intercom, or Zendesk if support already runs on tickets and queues; a small shop gets the same job done more cheaply with Tidio. If the job is capturing leads, HubSpot is the natural choice for a company on HubSpot CRM, and Jotform is the simplest free option for a small business. If the job is booking sales meetings from your website chat, Darwin is the best fit, because it books the meeting inside the conversation, tests its own opening lines on live traffic and charges per meeting; Qualified is the enterprise option for Salesforce teams. On a tight budget, look at tawk.to or Crisp. To build and run your own agent across channels, use Chatbase.
Every tool here can put an AI agent on your site that answers in its own words. What separates them is what the agent is for, what it learns from, what happens when a visitor wants more than an answer, and how the bill grows.
A disclosure: we make Darwin, AI website chat that answers questions and books meetings, so we are not neutral. We placed it sixth, at the top of the booking group, because booking sales meetings is the only job it is built for. If your chat is mainly for support or for a store, the tools in the first two groups fit better. Every price and capability below is a dated fact taken from the vendor's own pages.

Five jobs a website chatbot can do
| Job | What success looks like | How tools built for it charge |
|---|---|---|
| Deflecting support questions | Fewer conversations reach a person, and customers accept the answers they get | Seats for your team, plus a fee for each question the AI resolves |
| Capturing leads | Contacts arrive in the CRM with the details sales asked for | Free tools or seats, with AI usage on top |
| Booking sales meetings | Meetings booked from each page, not conversations started | A fee per booked meeting, or an annual contract |
| Spending as little as possible | Most questions answered at a fixed or zero monthly cost | Free plans, flat fees and paid add-ons |
| Building your own agent | One agent that answers correctly in every channel you run | Message credits |
The last column is a useful clue when two products look alike on a feature list. A tool that charges for each resolved question was designed to deflect support. One that charges per seat assumes people will answer most chats. One that charges per booked meeting or sells an annual pipeline contract is built for sales. Credits suit builders who want to meter every message. Choose a chatbot whose bill rises when it does the job you bought it for.
For the cost side in more depth, see our chatbot pricing guide. If you are deciding whether a person or a bot should answer at all, read chatbot vs live chat.

How we picked and checked these chatbots
We started from the chatbots buyers most often shortlist for a business website and kept those that a company can put on its own site today, with an AI agent that answers in its own words. Then we sorted them by the job each one is built for, using its own product pages, and kept the two or three clearest picks per job.
Each tool had to pass five tests to make the list:
- It runs on your own website. A widget or script you install, not a chatbot that lives only inside another app.
- Its AI answers in its own words. A bot limited to buttons and fixed flows did not qualify.
- It is clearly built for one of the five jobs. We judged the job from the vendor's own product pages and from how it charges.
- Its prices are public, or we asked for them. Where a vendor publishes no price, we asked its own website chat and report the answer.
- It is sold today. We checked each vendor's news for acquisitions, renames and shutdowns in October 2026.
We read each vendor's pricing, product and help pages in September 2026 and again on 5 October 2026. Every price and capability in the table and the sections is a dated fact linked to the page it came from. For four of the ten, Intercom, HubSpot, Qualified and our own, we also typed the same buyer questions into the chat on the vendor's own website in early October 2026, without giving any contact details.SourcesIntercomHubSpotQualifiedDarwin
We did not trial every tool or run any of them on a live site for this article. A cell marked Not documented means the vendor's public pages did not confirm the capability when we checked, not that the product lacks it.
Best AI chatbot for website support deflection
These three are built to answer customers so fewer conversations reach your team. They differ mainly in size: Intercom and Zendesk are full service platforms, and Tidio is the small-business version.

Intercom: best for support teams that want Fin
Support-led companies that want one messenger for service, with a sales assist on the side.
Sales teams that do not need a helpdesk and would rather not pay per seat and per answer.
- Starting price
- $39/seat/mo

- Via integration
Intercom is a customer service platform first: a shared inbox, a help center and Fin, its AI agent, which answers customers from the knowledge you give it, website content included.SourcesIntercom
The bill has two parts. Seats for your team start at $39/seat/mo on Essential, and Fin adds a charge for each outcome it delivers. Fin pricing starts at $0.99 per outcome. For a support team that is a direct price on deflection: the AI costs money when it settles a conversation.SourcesIntercom +1
Fin for Sales can also qualify a visitor and book a meeting in Messenger through Calendly or HubSpot, at $9.99/qualification for each qualified lead. When we asked Fin on Intercom's own website what Intercom costs, it asked for a business email the first time and gave seat and outcome prices the second.SourcesIntercom +2
The company behind the product renamed itself Fin in May 2026, and Salesforce completed its purchase of the company in September 2026; Intercom remains the name of the platform.SourcesIntercomSalesforce +1
SourcesIntercom +1
Intercom pros
- A strong support inbox and help center
- Fin drafts a sales playbook from a prompt or your pricing page
- Messenger imports your logo and colors from your domain
Intercom cons
- Two-layer pricing, seats plus outcome fees, so the bill grows when the AI succeeds
- Sales chat is an add-on to a support product
- No free plan after the trial

Zendesk: best when support already runs on tickets

Zendesk fits a company where support is already a department, with tickets, queues and several channels. Its AI agents work inside that suite, answer from your help center, and can use pages from your website that a web crawler brings in.SourcesZendesk
Zendesk's Suite Team plan is $69 per agent per month on monthly billing. Each plan includes a small monthly allowance of automated resolutions per agent, and Zendesk bills every resolution beyond it. As with Intercom, the AI line on the invoice grows with the number of questions it closes.SourcesZendesk
Zendesk completed its purchase of Forethought, an AI agent company, in March 2026 and says the deal lets it offer self-improving AI agents. Its help center already documents A/B tests for AI agents that your team configures. Zendesk's pages do not describe its AI agents booking meetings, so it is not the tool for sales chat.SourcesZendeskZendesk help +1
SourcesZendesk +2Zendesk help
Zendesk pros
- Ticketing, messaging, a help center and AI agents in one suite
- AI agents learn from your help center and pages a web crawler brings in
- A test version of the AI agent before you publish it
- A free trial before you commit
Zendesk cons
- Per-agent Suite pricing, with no free plan
- AI agents add a charge per resolution beyond a small monthly allowance
- Meeting booking is not documented for its AI agents
What Zendesk users say
Users like
I also really like using macros and copilot to shorten our response times
Reviewers say Zendesk's AI agents and Copilot help them answer faster, from drafting replies to deflecting tickets through the help center.
It's easy to use and pretty intuitive, so new agents get up to speed fast.
Agents find Zendesk's day-to-day ticket workspace easy to learn and use.
Users complain about
Advanced AI is difficult to configure and impossible to do self-service.
Zendesk's AI agents take real work to set up and sometimes fall short of the demos or give off-target answers.

Tidio: best for small shops that want a support bot

Tidio is support chat sized for a small business or an online store: a widget, a shared inbox and Lyro, an AI agent that answers from website URLs you add as data sources.SourcesTidio
Tidio's Free plan has no monthly fee. The Starter plan is $29/mo, and Lyro is sold as its own quota of AI conversations. Lyro's quota starts at $39 per month for 50 conversations on monthly billing. Watch the two counters separately, because a busy month can use up one before the other.SourcesTidio
For sales, Lyro can share a Calendly scheduling link through a Book-a-call action, and the visitor finishes booking on Calendly's page.SourcesTidio
Tidio pros
- A free plan, and a free trial of the paid features
- Lyro trains on website URLs you provide
- Simple setup for non-technical teams
Tidio cons
- Meeting booking is a shared link, not a calendar inside the chat
- Priced by conversation volume, so costs climb with traffic
- Built for support and e-commerce, not B2B pipeline
What Tidio users say
Users like
The AI replies are well-suited and provide accurate responses to our customers.
Tidio's Lyro AI agent takes routine, repetitive questions off small support teams.

Best AI chatbots for booking sales meetings
A booking chatbot is judged by one number: meetings on your reps' calendars. Both of these offer a time inside the conversation instead of sending the visitor to a separate scheduling page. They sit at opposite ends on price and setup.
In the chat or by link: how the ten tools book
Booking is where the ten tools differ most. Darwin, Qualified's Piper, Intercom's Fin for Sales and Chatbase, through its Calendly and Cal.com actions, offer times inside the conversation. HubSpot's bots and Tidio's Lyro send a scheduling link that opens a separate calendar page, and Jotform takes reservations against Google Calendar availability. Zendesk, tawk.to and Crisp do not document meeting booking.SourcesDarwinQualifiedIntercomChatbaseHubSpotTidioJotform
The difference matters for a sales team. Every extra step between the buyer's question and the calendar is a place to stop, and a link can separate the meeting from the conversation that led to it. Whichever tool you test, book a meeting yourself and check that the rep sees what the visitor asked before the call.

Darwin is ours, and for booking sales meetings from website chat it is our pick. It is built for that one job: turning a visitor's questions into a booked meeting. You enter your website address and it reads your pages to draft the assistant's knowledge, its brand styling and an opening line for each page. When a visitor is ready, it offers a time inside the conversation through Calendly, Google Calendar or RevenueHero.SourcesDarwin +1
With automatic testing on, it tries different opening lines on each page, promotes the ones that bring more visitors to the booking step (never one that books fewer meetings) and starts the next test from the winner. For comparison, Intercom, Zendesk and Qualified document A/B tests that your team sets up, Qualified also says Piper adjusts to operator feedback, and HubSpot and Tidio describe openings you write and edit yourself.SourcesDarwinIntercomQualifiedHubSpotTidio
The Free plan costs $0/mo and includes 5 free credits once; after those, each booked meeting or qualified request costs $30/credit. Plans with credits included every month start at $299/mo. There is no ticketing or support inbox. See how it works and the pricing page.SourcesDarwin
Darwin pros
- With automatic testing on, it tests its own openings and promotes the winners
- Drafts its setup from your website URL
- Offers a time inside the chat, through Calendly, Google Calendar or RevenueHero
- Priced per booked meeting or qualified request, not per seat or per answer

Where Darwin fits: the best AI chatbot for website sales meetings
If your website exists to start sales conversations, Darwin is the best AI chatbot for that job. We make it, so here is the case in terms you can check, and where it stops.
- It books inside the chat. A visitor who is ready picks a time in the conversation, through Calendly, Google Calendar or RevenueHero, with no form and no separate scheduling page. Qualified also books in the chat, but it needs Salesforce and a quote.SourcesDarwinQualified
- It improves its own openings. Of the 31 website chat and AI SDR tools we have checked, Darwin is the only one whose documentation describes testing its own chat openings on live traffic, keeping whichever brings more visitors to the booking step, and starting the next test from that winner, with no one setting the tests up. It is the scientific method run the way natural selection works, which is where Darwin gets its name: variation, a fair test on real visitors, keep what wins, and repeat.SourcesDarwin
- The bill follows meetings. Free has no monthly fee and charges per booked meeting or qualified request after the free ones; plans with a monthly allowance start at $299/mo. Qualified, the other booking pick, is sold by quote.SourcesDarwin
- You can set it up yourself. It reads your website to draft its knowledge, brand styling and opening lines, and you review them before anything goes live.SourcesDarwin

Choose something else when the job is different. For support deflection, Intercom, Zendesk or Tidio is the better tool, because it has no ticketing or support inbox. An enterprise team that routes by Salesforce account ownership and wants a vendor's services team behind the rollout should look at Qualified. Knowing which companies visit without chatting is a visitor-identification tool's job, since it talks only with visitors who open the chat, and outbound email belongs to an outbound AI SDR.
If you are unsure which job matters most, look at what your website already does. If most visitors who get in touch end up on a sales call, the job is booking meetings, and that is the job it is built for.
Plans and the per-booking fee are on the pricing page, and the docs explain how it improves your openings. Side-by-side pages compare Darwin with Qualified, Intercom, HubSpot and Tidio.SourcesDarwin

Crisp charges one flat price per workspace, whatever the number of conversations, which makes the bill easy to forecast. Crisp's Free plan is free forever and includes 2 seats. Paid plans start at $45/mo for Mini, and each paid plan includes a monthly allowance of AI credits.SourcesCrisp
Crisp's AI can be trained on your website through a content scraper, as well as on help articles, past conversations and uploaded files. Crisp's pages do not describe meeting booking, so plan on a separate scheduling link if the chat needs one.SourcesCrisp +1

- One flat price per workspace, however many conversations come in
- A free plan with no time limit, and a trial of paid plans without a card

Best AI chatbot to build your own agent
Some teams want to design the agent themselves: what it reads, what it can do and where it runs. Chatbase is the builder in this group.

Chatbase: best for building an agent for several channels
Teams that want one AI agent, trained on their website and documents, working across web chat, email, voice and WhatsApp.
Site owners who only want a simple chat bubble with the least setup.

Chatbase is a builder. You create an AI agent, give it sources and actions, and then choose where it runs: a website widget, email, voice or WhatsApp. Chatbase trains on files, websites, text, Q&A, Notion pages and support tickets you add; link sources can be individual URLs or a sitemap crawl.SourcesChatbase
Actions are what make it more than an FAQ bot. Its Calendly and Cal.com actions let a visitor check availability and book without leaving the chat.SourcesChatbase
Chatbase's Free plan is $0 with 50 message credits a month and one member. Paid plans start at $40/mo for Hobby and grow by message credits, so a busy site pays for volume.SourcesChatbase
Chatbase pros
- Books meetings in the chat through Calendly or Cal.com actions
- Trains on websites, files, Notion pages and support tickets
- An official WordPress plugin, and documented installs for Webflow and Framer
- One agent can work across chat, email, voice and WhatsApp
Chatbase cons
- The free plan's message credits run out fast
- Free-plan agents are deleted after 14 days of inactivity
- Removing Chatbase branding is a paid add-on

Best AI chatbot for ecommerce website support
A store's chatbot does a different job from a B2B site's. Shoppers ask about sizes, stock, delivery times, order status and returns, often on a phone and outside office hours. The measure that matters is questions answered before checkout and support tickets avoided after it.
Before you compare store chatbots, check each one against the questions your shop actually gets:
- Product questions: sizes, materials, compatibility and stock, answered from your product pages.
- Order questions: where an order is and when it will arrive, which needs a link to your store platform.
- Policy questions: shipping costs, returns and exchanges, answered the same way every time.
- A person when it matters: a complaint, a damaged parcel or a large order should reach your team fast.
For most small and mid-size stores, Tidio is the best AI chatbot for an ecommerce website. Tidio is built for small businesses and online stores, and its pricing page lists native Shopify actions next to live chat, ticketing and a shared inbox, so one widget covers product questions before a sale and order questions after it.SourcesTidio
Crisp suits a store that wants the same bill in a quiet month and in the holiday rush, since it charges per workspace rather than per conversation. A large store with a support department will get more from Intercom or Zendesk, whose AI agents work inside full ticketing and reporting.SourcesCrisp
A chat built for booking sales meetings, ours included, is not built for store support: it has no ticketing or support inbox. It fits a store only where a sale starts with a conversation, such as wholesale accounts, custom orders or high-value equipment, and the next step is a call with a person.
Many stores run on WordPress, and the best AI chatbot for a WordPress website is compared in our WordPress guide. On Shopify, most chat tools install as an app; how to add a chatbot to your website shows where each one goes. Whichever you pick, connect it to your store platform before launch, then ask it about a test order to check that order questions get a real answer.
Is there a free AI chatbot for a website?
Yes, but each free option stops somewhere different. Check which limit you would hit first at your traffic.
- Free chat, paid AI. tawk.to's chat costs nothing with any number of agents; its AI Assist is a monthly add-on.Sourcestawk.to
- Free plans with a monthly cap. Jotform's Starter plan is free, with 100 monthly conversations and 5 active AI agents. Tidio's Free plan has no monthly fee. Chatbase's Free plan is $0 with 50 message credits a month and one member.SourcesJotformTidioChatbase
- Free chat without AI credits. Crisp's Free plan is free forever and includes 2 seats. Crisp's AI credits start with the paid plans.SourcesCrisp
- Free CRM chat. HubSpot's free tools include live chat and a limited chatbot with HubSpot branding.SourcesHubSpot
- No monthly fee, pay per meeting. Darwin's Free plan has no subscription and includes 5 free credits once, then charges $30/credit.SourcesDarwin
- Trials only. Intercom and Zendesk offer trials rather than free plans, and Qualified lists neither.SourcesIntercomZendeskQualified
What an AI chatbot costs in practice: two worked examples
List prices are hard to compare because each tool counts something different. Two examples on monthly list prices, checked on 6 October 2026, show how each bill is built.
Support: 2 agents and 400 AI resolutions a month
On Intercom, 2 Essential seats cost 2 × $39/seat/mo, or $78, and Fin outcomes are billed on top. Fin pricing starts at $0.99 per outcome. At that starting rate, 400 outcomes add $396, for $474 a month. On annual billing the seats drop to $29/seat/mo, which brings the same month to $454.SourcesIntercom +3
HubSpot's customer agent needs a Professional plan, so the same team needs 2 Service Hub Professional seats at $100/seat/mo, or $200. HubSpot's customer agent costs $0.50 for each conversation it resolves without a person, paid in HubSpot Credits. That puts 400 resolutions at $200 more, so $400 a month before any credits the plan includes. HubSpot charges a one-time $1,500 onboarding fee for Service Hub Professional.SourcesHubSpot +2
Zendesk would be 2 × $69/agent/mo in seats, plus a fee for each automated resolution beyond the plan's monthly allowance, so its total depends on that allowance. Tidio, Crisp and Chatbase count conversations, a flat workspace fee and message credits, so check which counter 400 AI answers would hit on each. Crisp is the easiest to forecast: its Mini plan is $45/mo for the whole workspace however many conversations arrive, with AI limited by the credits the plan includes.SourcesZendeskCrisp
Sales: 10 booked meetings a month
Darwin's Free plan has no monthly fee. In the first month, its 5 free credits cover half of 10 meetings and the other 5 cost 5 × $30/credit, or $150. In later months, 10 meetings cost $300. On Growth the plan fee of $299/mo includes 10 credits, so the same 10 meetings cost $299, and Growth is the cheaper plan once meetings are steady.SourcesDarwin
Intercom's Fin for Sales charges $9.99/qualification for each qualified lead, so its cost follows qualified leads rather than meetings, on top of Intercom seats. Qualified quotes every deal. Vendr reports that the median buyer pays $70,000 a year for Qualified, across 192 purchases ranging from $36,150 to $124,473.SourcesIntercomVendr
The pattern holds beyond these numbers. A tool billed per outcome costs more as it deflects more, and a tool billed per meeting costs more as it books more. Pick the one whose bill grows with the result you bought it for.

What makes a good AI chatbot for a website: six checks
On a feature list, most AI chatbots look alike. These six checks separate them once real visitors arrive, and most of them map to a column in the table at the top.
- It learns from your website, and keeps up. Some tools crawl your pages and refresh their answers when you edit them; others answer only from content you upload and keep current by hand. The table's Learns from your site column shows which is which.
- It knows what it must not say. Look for instructions or guardrails that stop it promising discounts, delivery dates or features you do not have, and for a clear reply when it does not know.
- It hands off cleanly. When the bot cannot help, the visitor should reach a person, a ticket or a callback, and your team should see the whole conversation.
- It ends where your job ends. A support bot should close the question, a lead bot should create a contact with the details sales asked for, and a sales bot should put a meeting on a calendar.
- It gets better after launch. Most tools leave improvement to you: A/B tests your team sets up, or flows you edit by hand. Ask each vendor what changes on its own and what needs your time every month.
- Its bill grows with the result. Per seat, per conversation, per outcome, per credit or per meeting: model a month at your own traffic before you compare prices.
AI chatbots that pass all six are rare, so rank the checks by your job. A support team should weigh the first three; a sales team should weigh the last three.
Five mistakes to avoid when choosing an AI chatbot
Most chatbot regrets come from a few predictable choices. Each of these is easy to avoid before you sign.
- Choosing by the length of the feature list. A tool built for support and one built for sales can tick the same boxes and behave very differently. Choose by the job, then compare features within it.
- Judging the bot by the vendor's demo. The demo uses questions the vendor picked. Put your visitors' own questions to it, including one about price and one it cannot know.
- Missing the second counter on the bill. Many tools meter two things at once, such as seats and AI outcomes, or plan conversations and AI conversations. Find every counter and price a busy month, not an average one.
- Launching without limits on what it may say. A business answers for its chatbot's mistakes. In February 2024, British Columbia's Civil Resolution Tribunal ordered Air Canada to compensate a customer who relied on a wrong answer from its website chatbot, ruling that the airline is responsible for what its chatbot says. Restrict the bot to your own content, tell it what to do when it is unsure, and read its first conversations every day.SourcesCBC News
- Measuring conversations instead of the job. More chats is not the goal. Measure what the job needs: questions resolved, leads with the details sales asked for, or meetings booked, page by page.
Which AI chatbot fits your website? A three-question guide
If the groups above still leave you between two tools, answer these three questions in order.
- What should a good conversation end in? An answered question points to the support group, a visitor's details to lead capture, a booked meeting to the booking group, and the smallest possible bill to tawk.to, Crisp or Chatbase.
- Where does your team already work? Support that runs on tickets points to Zendesk, contacts in HubSpot CRM point to HubSpot, and an enterprise sales team on Salesforce points to Qualified. With none of those in place, the self-serve picks are Intercom for support and Jotform for leads, and the booking group above covers meetings.
- How do you want to pay? Per outcome, per seat, per conversation, a flat fee, credits or per meeting. Choose the model whose bill rises when the chat does the job you bought it for, and price one month at your traffic.

How to test an AI chatbot on your own site before you commit
A demo shows the vendor's best questions. Spend an hour on yours instead.
- Write down the five questions visitors ask most, from your inbox, sales calls or site search, plus one awkward one: a price, a competitor, or something you do not offer.
- Point the bot at your live website, then put all six questions to it in the vendor's preview or on a test page. Mark each answer right, vague or wrong.
- Ask something it cannot know and see what happens next: a hand-off to a person, a form, or an invented answer. Only the first two are acceptable.
- If the job is sales, book a meeting from the chat yourself and check that it lands on the right calendar with the conversation attached.
- Price a month at last month's traffic, counting seats, conversations, resolutions or meetings the way that vendor bills them.
- After launch, track the success measure for your job from the table above, page by page and week by week.
Questions to ask a chatbot vendor before you sign
A short call with each shortlisted vendor saves a long contract with the wrong one. Ask these, and ask for the answer in writing or on a public page:
- What exactly counts as a billable conversation, resolution, credit or meeting, and what happens when we go over?
- Which sources does the AI learn from, and how often does it refresh them after we edit a page?
- What does the bot say when it does not know, and can we see that in our own test?
- How does a conversation reach a person, and who is notified?
- If the job is sales, does the visitor book inside the chat or follow a link, and which calendars are supported?
- What improves on its own after launch, and what needs our team's time each month?
- Can we cancel monthly, and do we keep our conversation history if we leave?
A vendor that answers these plainly, with a page you can check, is usually easier to work with after the sale too.
Our verdict: the best AI chatbot for website owners in 2026
The best AI chatbot for website owners is the one built for the job the site needs done. Our picks, by job:
- Support deflection: Intercom, or Zendesk if support already runs on tickets; Tidio for a small shop.
- Lead capture: HubSpot for companies on HubSpot CRM; Jotform as the free start.
- Booking sales meetings: Darwin, which books in the chat, improves its own openings and charges per meeting; Qualified for enterprise teams on Salesforce.
- Lowest cost: tawk.to if your staff answer the chats, or Crisp for one flat bill.
- Building your own agent: Chatbase.
Whichever two you shortlist, run the one-hour test above on both before you sign anything.
AI chat questions.
What is the best AI chatbot for website owners?
It depends on what the chat is for. For support, Intercom and Zendesk lead, with Tidio for small shops. For lead capture, HubSpot suits companies on HubSpot CRM and Jotform suits small businesses that want a free start. For booking sales meetings, Darwin (we make it, so weigh that) is the best fit and Qualified the enterprise option. On a budget, tawk.to and Crisp. To build your own agent, Chatbase.
Which AI chatbot is best for a small business website?
Pick by job and budget. Tidio suits a small shop that wants a support bot with a free start, Jotform captures leads and takes reservations on a free plan, tawk.to is free if your own staff answer, and Crisp keeps chat and AI on one flat monthly bill. A small B2B firm that wins work through sales calls can start on a pay-per-meeting plan with no monthly fee.
What is the difference between an AI chatbot and a rule-based chatbot?
A rule-based chatbot follows a script of buttons and branches that someone wrote, and it stalls when a visitor types something unexpected. An AI chatbot reads your content, such as your website and help articles, and writes its own reply to each question. Many tools now offer both, and use rules for steps like collecting details or routing to a person.
Can an AI chatbot book meetings on my website?
Some can do it inside the conversation: Darwin, Qualified's Piper, Intercom's Fin for Sales and Chatbase's Calendly or Cal.com actions offer times in the chat. HubSpot and Tidio share a scheduling link that opens a calendar page. Jotform takes reservations against Google Calendar. Zendesk, tawk.to and Crisp do not document booking.
How much does an AI chatbot for a website cost?
From nothing to a quoted enterprise contract. Free plans from tawk.to, Jotform, Tidio, Chatbase, Crisp and HubSpot cover light use. Small-business plans run from tens to a few hundred dollars a month. Support platforms charge per seat plus a fee per AI resolution, and enterprise sales tools such as Qualified are quoted. Price a month at your own traffic before you compare.
How do I add an AI chatbot to my website?
Almost every tool gives you one snippet of code to paste before the closing body tag, or into your site builder's custom code setting, through Google Tag Manager or a plugin. Then you point the bot at your website so it can learn your content, set its greeting and hand-off rules, and test it on a private page before you publish. Our WordPress, Webflow and Framer guides cover each platform step by step.
Can an AI chatbot replace live chat on a website?
For routine questions, often yes: an AI chatbot answers at any hour and passes the rest to a person. Keep a person in the loop for complaints, complex deals and anything the bot is unsure about. Most tools in this article combine both, and our chatbot vs live chat guide compares the trade-offs.
Is there an AI chatbot that improves on its own?
Darwin documents one way to do it. With automatic testing on, it tries different opening lines on each page, promotes the ones that bring more visitors to the booking step (never one that books fewer meetings) and starts the next test from the winner. Intercom, Zendesk and Qualified document A/B tests your team sets up, and Qualified also says Piper adjusts to operator feedback.
