vs

More meetings. Less managing.

Drift made website chat a sales channel. Darwin picks up that idea and adds a chat that keeps testing its own openings. Here's how the two compare, including where Drift stands after the March 2026 sunset announcement.

THE SIDE-BY-SIDE

The difference,
at a glance.

Drift built the playbook for booking meetings from a website. Darwin runs the opening experiments on its own and is sold at a published price. The tables below show the differences, row by row.

Self-improves to book more meetings

Darwin

Creates tests. Promotes qualifying winners. Tests again. 1

With automation enabled, on eligible pages within your plan. Tests need enough traffic; a lift is not guaranteed.

Checked Sep 11, 2026
Drift

Manual A/B tests; an autonomous opening loop is not documented. 2

A/B testing needs the Advanced or Enterprise plan. The operator builds both flows, starts the test and picks the winner.

Checked Sep 11, 2026

Writes new openings for each page

Darwin

Creates opening variants from page context. 1

For pages with automation enabled and sufficient traffic to run an experiment. Every plan includes unlimited optimized pages.

Checked Sep 11, 2026
Drift

Playbook messages and A/B flows are written by the operator and targeted by URL. 2

Targeting conditions decide where a playbook fires; the copy itself is authored in the flow builder.

Checked Sep 11, 2026

Tests and keeps better openings

Darwin

Tests opening variants and can promote a better performer. 1

Requires enough evidence; an experiment may have no winner.

Checked Sep 11, 2026
Drift

Ending an A/B test shows the stats and asks the operator to choose the winning flow. 2

The selected flow becomes the playbook's flow; automatic promotion is not described.

Checked Sep 11, 2026

Starts the next test automatically

Darwin

The next opening experiment builds from the current winner. 1

Automation must be enabled and the page eligible. This does not guarantee improving results.

Checked Sep 11, 2026
Drift

An automatic cycle of generating, testing and replacing openings is not documented. 23

Restarting a test is a manual Edit and restart action. Bionic Chatbots improve answers through operator feedback, which is not an opening experiment.

Brand detection is a draft: available fonts, contrast and source-site access affect the result.

Checked Sep 11, 2026
Drift

Colors, font and icon style are set manually in widget settings.

Checked Sep 11, 2026

Writes your first chat opening

Darwin

Drafts the first chat opening from the business context. 4

Uses the same opening requirements as the experiment writer; the draft remains editable.

Checked Sep 11, 2026
Drift

The welcome message and playbook message nodes are written by the operator. 27

An automatically drafted first opening is not described.

Checked Sep 11, 2026

Review before going live

Darwin

The assistant draft can be reviewed and refined before installation. 4

Calendar connection, testing and website installation remain separate completion steps.

Checked Sep 11, 2026
Drift

Publishing takes a playbook out of draft; Bionic responses can be tested first.

THE DARWIN DIFFERENCE

Your chat works on getting better.

Darwin keeps trying new openings on the pages you allow it to, and it keeps the ones that get visitors talking and booking. You don't run the tests. You just show up to the meetings.

Who is each product for?

Start with the job you need your chat to do.

Turn website visits into sales meetings.

Good fit for

  • Drift customers who want a replacement with a published price.
  • Sales teams booking demos from website traffic.
  • Small teams who'd rather not build the setup themselves.

Less suited to

  • Large ABM programs built around Salesforce routing rules.

Existing Salesforce-heavy sales teams already running Drift playbooks.

Good fit for

  • Current customers with mature playbooks and routing rules.
  • Revenue teams reporting pipeline influence inside Salesforce.
  • Marketing teams using Conversational Landing Pages.

Less suited to

  • New buyers, given the announced gradual sunset.
  • Teams that want openings tested and improved without manual work.
A LITTLE MORE DETAIL

Before you
make the move.

Is Drift being discontinued?

Clari + Salesloft announced a gradual sunset of Drift on March 5, 2026 and named 1mind as the successor for existing clients. The announcement gave no final shutdown date, so ask your account team about your own timeline.

14
Can Drift book meetings from chat?

Yes. Once Drift knows the visitor's email, its Book a Meeting skill puts a rep's calendar right in the chat. Darwin does something similar: it offers a time and hands off to whatever scheduler you've connected. Either way, read the provider's fine print on what counts as a completed booking.

2611
Does Drift A/B test its chat openings?

Drift supports A/B tests on the Advanced and Enterprise plans, but your team writes both flows, starts the test and chooses the winner. Darwin writes, tests and promotes openings automatically on eligible pages, and moves on to the next test.

12
How do the prices compare?

Drift never published a price; plans were quoted per account. Darwin's Origin plan has no monthly fee, includes five bookings, and then charges per booked meeting. Paid plans add monthly allowances at lower per-booking rates.
