# Darwin + Mailchimp

Add new leads from your chat to a Mailchimp audience, tagged, with double opt-in.

This is the Markdown version of https://www.meetdarwin.ai/integrations/mailchimp, published by Darwin and generated on 13 October 2026.

When a visitor leaves their name and email in Darwin's chat, Zapier adds them to your Mailchimp audience, or updates them if they're already there, tagged so you know they came from the chat. It runs through Zapier: Darwin's Zapier app starts the Zap and Zapier's Mailchimp app does the work. This recipe is a two-step Zap, which Zapier's free plan includes.

## What you can do

- **Grow your audience from chat.** Visitors who leave their email join your audience, tagged so you know where they came from.
- **Consent first.** Double opt-in asks each person to confirm before they get your marketing email.
- **Start a journey.** Use the tag to start a Mailchimp journey for chat leads.

## How they work together

1. **Connect Darwin to Zapier.** Add Darwin to your Zapier account and create a key for it in Darwin.
2. **Pick the trigger.** Choose Darwin's New Lead trigger in a new Zap.
3. **Add Mailchimp.** Choose Mailchimp's Add/Update Subscriber action, map the fields and turn the Zap on.

## Before you connect

- A Mailchimp account on any plan, including free.
- Consent to email the person. Leaving an email in a chat isn't consent to marketing, so use double opt-in or ask in the chat.
- A Zapier account with Darwin added. Darwin is in private beta on Zapier; the setup guide has the invite link.
- Owner or admin access in Darwin, to create an API key for Zapier.

## Questions

**Is this a native Mailchimp integration?**

No. It runs through Zapier. Darwin's Zapier app starts the Zap when something happens in your chat, and Zapier's Mailchimp app does the work in Mailchimp. You choose which fields go where, and you can add filters or extra steps.

**Does it copy contacts Darwin already has?**

No. A Zap acts on events from the moment you turn it on. To bring in earlier leads, download them as a CSV from Conversations in Darwin, or read them with the API.
