# Ask Darwin in the app

Ask Darwin, the in-app assistant, from the box on Home (⌘J) or the D button at the bottom right: how something works, how your chat is doing, who to follow up with, adding knowledge, changing the opening or the chat’s look, or pausing the chat.

This is the Markdown version of https://www.meetdarwin.ai/help/home/ask-darwin, published by Darwin and generated on 27 October 2026.

Find it in Darwin: The Ask Darwin box on Home, or the D button at the bottom right (https://app.meetdarwin.ai/admin). Updated Oct 26, 2026.

Darwin has its own assistant inside the app. Ask it a question in plain words and it answers from these guides and your workspace, or makes the change for you.

1. **Open the assistant**

   There are three ways in:

   - On **Home**, type in the **Ask Darwin** box at the top (1), or select one of the suggested questions under it (2). Press ⌘J (Ctrl+J on Windows) on Home to jump to the box.
   - On other screens, select the **D** button at the bottom right.
   - While you’re setting up, select **Not live yet** in the sidebar.

_Screenshot: The D button at the bottom right of the screen, highlighted._

2. **Ask in your own words**

Type in **Ask Darwin…** and press Enter. For example:

   - "How did the chat do this week?"
   - "Who should I follow up with first?"
   - "Show me the latest chats from people who asked for a person."
   - "Add our new pricing page to the knowledge."
   - "Change the buttons under the opening to See pricing and Book a demo."
   - "Is the chat installed on our website?"

3. **Check what changed**

Darwin saves most changes straight away and says what it did in the chat. When something is easier to do yourself, it highlights the control on screen; select it to go there.

## What Darwin can help with

| Ask about | What Darwin does |
| --- | --- |
| How Darwin works | Answers from these guides and links the guide. |
| Results | Sums up visitors, chats, leads and meetings for a period, Home’s numbers and recent chats, and reads a chat with you. |
| Knowledge | Lists the pages your agent knows, adds website pages, and removes pages after saying which ones. |
| Your agent | Changes its name, voice or greeting. |
| The opening | Writes a new opening message for you to approve, or replaces the reply buttons under it, up to 4. |
| The chat’s look | Changes the chat’s colors, corners, text size, launcher icon, sounds and animations. |
| Meetings | Checks the calendar connection, changes the meeting type visitors book, saves a booking link, or switches on a ready-made request form. |
| Your website | Checks whether the site tag is installed. |
| Turning the chat on or off | Pauses or restarts the chat on your website, only when you ask it to. |

During setup, Darwin also asks for your agent’s name and voice, writes the opening for you to approve, and walks you through each step. See [Set up with Darwin’s help](https://www.meetdarwin.ai/help/getting-started/set-up-with-darwin).

## Good to know

- Darwin’s assistant is for owners and admins.
- It isn’t on the **Agent**, **Knowledge**, **Buttons** and **Links** screens, the test chat or the outcome form editor, because those show your own chat’s preview. Use it from any other screen.
- It can’t create or edit chat buttons on your website, or change unsaved edits on the Agent screen. Use [Buttons](https://www.meetdarwin.ai/help/buttons/chat-buttons) and the Agent screen for those.
- It doesn’t take calendar logins or paste install code into the chat. For those, it points you to the right screen.
- Your conversation with Darwin is saved, so you can pick it up later.
