# AI chat

Darwin answers questions from your own pages and documents, in your brand’s voice, and offers a meeting when a buyer is ready.

This is the Markdown version of https://www.meetdarwin.ai/features/ai-chat, published by Darwin and generated on 25 October 2026.

## Answer every buyer the moment they ask.

Buyers ask the hard questions before they ever talk to sales. Pricing, security, integrations. Darwin answers them at 2am from what your team has already written, so the buyer keeps moving.

## Teach it once. Darwin reads your pages, answers from what it read and shows where each answer came from.

1. **Darwin reads your site.** Add your website and documents. Darwin reads every page and can re-read them every week, so answers keep up with your site.
2. **Every answer shows its sources.** Darwin answers from your pages and documents and lists the ones it used under the answer, so buyers can check.
3. **Check any answer first.** Ask anything in Answer check and see the pages Darwin would use, before a visitor ever asks.

## Answers buyers can trust. Grounded in your content, with a person one message away.

- **Answers that end in a meeting.** Darwin answers the follow-up question too, then offers a time while the buyer is still deciding.
- **Hands off when asked.** When a buyer wants a person, Darwin records the request, asks for their email and flags the conversation.
- **Looks like your website.** Your colors, font and corners, so the chat feels like part of the page.

## Under your control. Where it shows up, what it tells visitors and when it goes live.

- **Hidden where it doesn’t belong.** List the pages where the opening message stays off.
- **A privacy notice in the chat.** Add a consent line and a link to your privacy policy.
- **Live when you say so.** Preview the chat in Agent Studio, then turn your agent live.

## Questions

**Where do the answers come from?**

Your website, first of all. Then whatever else you add in Knowledge, plus the business context you type in yourself, the stuff that isn't written down anywhere public. You can read and edit all of it, choose the assistant's voice, and try conversations in Agent Studio before the chat goes live on your site.

**What if a visitor doesn’t book?**

Nothing is lost. If they left an email or a name, it stays on the conversation, and someone on your team can read the chat later and decide whether it's worth a follow-up.

**Can the AI chat hand off to a person?**

Darwin passes the request on rather than opening a live chat. When a visitor asks for a person, Darwin records the request and why they asked, and it shows up under Needs your attention on Home and in the requests-for-a-person filter in Conversations. Through Zapier or a webhook, the request can also reach Slack, Microsoft Teams or your CRM the moment it happens.

**What happens when Darwin doesn't know the answer?**

Darwin is built to answer only from the facts you give it, and not to invent prices, capabilities, calendar availability or a confirmed booking. Conversations where a question went unanswered are flagged in Conversations, so you can add the missing fact to your business context and test the question again.

**Will the chat push every visitor to book a demo?**

No. It answers the question first and offers a meeting when the conversation shows buying interest, such as questions about pricing, integrations, fit or implementation. It respects a no, and helps existing customers with support instead of pitching them a meeting.

**Can leads from the chat go to HubSpot or Salesforce?**

Yes, through Zapier. Darwin's Zapier app starts a Zap when a visitor leaves their details, books a meeting or asks for a person, and Zapier creates the contact, lead or person in HubSpot, Salesforce or Pipedrive with the page they chatted on and a link to the conversation. Darwin's Zapier app is in private beta, so you add it with the invite link in the setup guide.

**Can I update what Darwin knows?**

Yes, any time. Website pages, documents and business context live in Agent Studio's Knowledge tab. You can open what was imported, see exactly what the assistant is working from, and change it.

**Can our team work in the same workspace?**

Yes. The workspace owner invites teammates as admins, who can change the assistant, knowledge, appearance and automation, or as members, who can review conversations and results. Configuration and conversation data belong to the workspace, so everyone sees the same thing.

**How much can we control?**

Quite a lot. Your knowledge and business context, the assistant's name, voice and greeting, the opening message and the pages it stays off, your booking provider, where the chat is installed, and how much of the experiment loop runs on its own. Winning openings can go live automatically or wait for someone on your team to apply them, while Darwin's sales behavior and guardrails are built in.

**Can Darwin answer from documents that aren't on our website?**

Yes. Agent Studio's Knowledge tab holds documents alongside your website pages and business context, and documents can also be added as text or Markdown through the API, Zapier or an AI assistant such as Claude. For a few short facts, business context is the quickest place.

**Does Darwin pick up changes to our website automatically?**

Not on its own. After you change a page, refresh it in Agent Studio's Knowledge tab, and use Re-fetch to find new pages; you can also keep pages current from your CMS through the API. If a refresh fails, Darwin keeps answering from the last version it read.

**Can we export or delete a visitor's data on request?**

Yes, through the API. One call exports everything Darwin holds about a person by their email address, and another permanently erases it, including their contact record, transcripts and booking details. Copies in your calendar provider or in tools you sent data to need erasing there too.

**How much of the widget can I customize?**

The parts that make it yours, on every plan: six colors, the font, text size, corner style, the agent image and the chat button, plus animations and message sounds. The one plan difference is the Darwin badge. Every plan shows it: Free, Growth and Agency.

**Can I use our own logo and fonts?**

Your logo, yes. Upload a PNG, JPG or WebP up to 5 MB as the agent image, and a transparent PNG, WebP or SVG up to 200 KB for the chat button. For type, pick from the font list in Appearance, where each name shows in its own typeface.

**Do I need to edit code or reinstall the widget?**

No. Change the design in Agent Studio's Appearance tab, check it in the live preview, and select Save changes. The widget already on your site picks up the saved design; nothing needs reinstalling.

**Will our calendar page match too?**

Darwin's own booking card and lead form take your styling. If your scheduling provider opens its own calendar page inside the chat, that page keeps the provider's appearance settings, not yours.

**Can we change the chat button?**

Yes. It can show a chat icon, your agent image, or your logo as a transparent PNG, WebP or SVG up to 200 KB, and it has its own color. Choose the Circle button corner style to make it round while the chat window keeps rounded corners.

**Can we add a privacy notice to the chat?**

Yes. In Agent Studio's Visibility & privacy tab, add a consent line and a link to your privacy policy, and they appear under the message box.

**Will the chat get in the way on phones?**

On a phone, the opening message waits until the visitor has scrolled a quarter of the page or spent 10 seconds on it, so it doesn't cover what they came to read the moment they arrive. Someone who comes from a personal link is greeted at 2.5 seconds, as on a computer. If they dismiss it, it stays hidden for the rest of their visit.
