# The opening message on phones, sooner

On a phone, the opening message now shows once a visitor scrolls a quarter of the page or stays 10 seconds. Personal links greet them at 2.5 seconds.

On a phone, the opening message used to wait until a visitor had scrolled 40% of the way down the page. On a long page that's several screens, so many phone visitors never saw it.

- **On a phone**: it appears once the visitor has scrolled a quarter of the page or spent 10 seconds on it, whichever comes first, and never before 2.5 seconds.
- **From a personal link**: the greeting appears 2.5 seconds after the page loads, the same as on a computer, with no scrolling needed.
- **On a computer**: nothing changes. It still appears 2.5 seconds after the page loads.

Once a visitor has seen it, it follows them to the next page straight away. The soft shading behind the message also fades out at the bottom of a phone's screen now, so Safari's toolbar no longer cuts it off with a dark line.
